Winnipeg Regional Women’s Committee Meeting Minutes DRAFT (November 12, 2023)

Attendance: Nicole Papineau-Chair, Cristina Esposito-Treasurer, Mona Simcoe-Secretary, Teresa Tremblay-CEIU, Debbie Leaman-AGR, Susan Tsai-UTE, Tracy Thor-PSAC representative.

Call to Order: Meeting opened at 5:30 by Nicole
Supper meeting with Subway sandwiches, Potato Salad, cheese, oranges, chocolates

Land Acknowledgement: Nicole
In this region, we live and work on Treaty One land, in the traditional territory of the Annishinaabe, Cree, Oji-Cree and Dakota peoples and in the heart of the Metis Nation.

PSAC Statement on Harassment: Nicole
Tracy Thor designated recipient.

Introductions: “What is your passion area when it comes to advocating for Women’s Issues?” 
-Educating others on women’s issues
-Learning form others
-Fighting for Rights so they are not lost (Roe v Wade in States)
-Domestic Violence
-educating others on “they don’t know what they don’t know”
-educating young men on how they speak “don’t cry like a girl”

Treasurer’s report:
Current Balance is $2799.44 which includes the $200 Take Back Night budget addition.

Report on upcoming Budget 2023 items:
$300 MFL National Day of Remembrance luncheon has a change of venue moved to tables of 8.  WRWC is on waiting list for this event. More to follow 30 Nov deadline to pay.
Ticket list – Nicole, Tannis, Rita, Cristina, Sheri, Susan
$300 NPDWC Hamper Donation deadline for collection of items is 14 Dec.
$200 Event “Take Bake the Night” has been cancelled.

Report on events/activities 2023
$100.00 Social Justica coffee – delivered to Willow place (International Women’s Day)
$200.00 Feminine products – delivered to MAMA clan (Earth Day)
$200.00 Breakfast items – Teulon School donation (Poverty MB) Purchased perishable items as those are the hardest for donations.  Milk, Cheese, Fruit
$100.00 Socks – Main Street Project (6th Socktober) Collected 449 socks.  Thankyou to all who collected personally and in their workplaces, locals, bookclub.
$100.00 Treats – Bear Clan Safe Halloween.  Event took place on Oct 30.
$90.00 – Nov Meeting – Subway meal
$200 Take Back the Night – event was cancelled due to lack of organizers and time to plan event.

Union Work for Women event – Debbie Leaman
This was held in Regina 28 Oct – 01 Nov.  Susan Tasi and Debbie Leaman both attended.  Learned about different styles of leadership, lots of guest speakers and discussion.  Political Action and advocating for women’s issues.  Break out groups allowed women to meet others and have discussions.  Great opportunity to engage and empower women.  Talked about women in the world ex Rosa Parks.  This discussion highlighted what is happening in the world and around us to women’s rights.

Nov 25 – Dec 10 – 16 days of activism against gender violence
Each day a post will be made on the WRWC Facebook.
Tracy will organize an email to go out by Monday 27 Nov with the 16 Days of Activism calendar, Winter Wear Donation Drive info, Christmas Hamper donations info. Agenda for 11 Dec mtg.

Dec 06 – National Day of Remembrance MFL luncheon

Winter Wear Donations Drive – West Central Women’s Resource Centre
Collecting of new or gently used items or money to support this drive.
Christmas Hamper Donations – North Point Douglas Women’s Centre (Mama Clan)
Collecting items such as toys, adult gifts, food hamper to support this drive. Budget-$300 hamper top up.
