The PSAC Prairie region stands in unwavering solidarity with Local 71250, Bank of Canada security officers, who have been on strike for over five weeks. The Prairie Region Council has approved a donation of $1,000 to support their strike fund.
Despite a previous order from the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) to stop using replacement workers, the Bank of Canada continued to rely on contract workers. The CIRB has once again ruled that the employer contravened the Canada Labour Code. Scab labour does not resolve disputes; it only prolongs strikes, and delays a fair agreement.
The Bank of Canada is not above the law. The union has offered a clear path to a deal. Governor Tiff Macklem must exercise his authority, provide a clear mandate, and tell the employer to return to the bargaining table immediately.
