Steve Sukhbir Bio

Steve started in the Public Service over 11 years ago and became active in the union after being invited to an AGM where he became the employment equity rep. Presently he the 1st Vice President of his local Union of National Defence Employees 30905. Subsequent Union Education and its members have provided a path to learning and helping others.

For a very long time Steve has been the only Racialized member of his executive and the only 2SLGBTQIA+ for his local. He is an advocate at the workplace for both civilian and military for 2SLGBTQIA+ issues, training and support. As such Steve would like to advance the issues of 2SLGBTQIA+ concerns and issues at the Prairie Region Council to make our voices heard and to enact change wherever it is needed.

Steve completed the Union Development Program, participated in the Edmonton Human Rights Committee and the Edmonton Area Council and most recently been on the steering committee for the Racially Visible Conference.

Steve’s aim is to promote what the union is to our new and older members, to foster a greater unity with our racialized members and to encourage our 2SLGBTQIA+ members, our fellow supporters and our allies to empower our diverse membership and to also show that being 2SLGBTQIA+ people we are here and have a grand voice in the Union.
