PSAC Prairies stands in solidarity with the families of Morgan Morris, Marcedes Myran and Indigenous communities calling on all levels of government to conduct a search of Prairie Green landfill for their loved ones.
The refusal of the City of Winnipeg and the Manitoba government, under the leadership of Mayor Scott Gillingham and Conservative Heather Stefanson respectively, to take action to search the landfill to locate the remains of Morgan Morris and Marcedes Myran is deplorable. Two Indigenous women were murdered, and governments have been more occupied with re-opening a landfill instead of demonstrating true leadership by taking action to locate Morgan and Marcedes for their grieving families, friends and communities.
We demand immediate action for Morgan, Marcedes and all murdered and missing Indigenous women and girls. It is high time that all levels of government come together and take meaningful action and responsibility to implement the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, and United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People.
PSAC Prairies remains committed to working with our Indigenous members, activists, and communities in efforts to effect change and true justice.
In Solidarity,
Marianne Hladun
