Brother Van Opstal will contact Brother Thompson to determine if he was able to contact the former treasurer (Brother Welsch) and obtain an electronic copy of the financial records.

There is still a need to complete an audit of the financial statements.  Brother Gilchrist suggested meeting either October 20 or 21 to complete.  Sister Brandt advised she would contact Sister Huggins to determine her availability and get back to him.

Old Business:

Brother Brennand contacted the Regina Red Sox.  No further information received.

The Casino Regina strike is over.  Members successfully achieved the improvements they were seeking.

Sister Galenzoski reported that Prairie Region Convention has been relocated to Winnipeg.  The Regina Inn was not able to accommodate the convention due to lack of space.  Only two cities in the Region have facilities sufficient to host convention (Calgaryand Winnipeg).

Sister Galenzoski reported she spoke with Sister Benson in June concerning the status of the Area Council’s bylaws.  PRC Area Council representatives are to coordinate/oversee development of standard bylaws which will then be circulated.

Bargaining Update:

Members of the bargaining teams from the last round of negotiations were called back early in an attempt to reach new collective agreements.  Brother Van Opstal, who is a member of the SV negotiating team, returned from Ottawalate Monday.  Improvements around bereavement leave were made; however severance pay provisions have been lost.  The new agreements will cover 3 years; increases are in the amount of 1.75%, 1.5% and 2% respectively.  Departments will be expected to cover off the increases.

Fight-Back Campaigns:

Brother Brennand advised his work area completed the forms.

Sister Galenzoski encouraged all members of the Area Council to subscribe to E-News.  She indicated there is a link on the Prairie Region website.

There was some discussion on the use of Facebook.  Several attendees indicated it seems to be the way to go as that is how they hear about what is going on.

Brother Janis advised there is a Unionbook; he will send information and a link to attendees.

Sister Galenzoski advised the next meeting of the Prairie Region Council will be in February 2011.

Next Area Council meeting:                       November 18 at 6:00 pm
