Frank Janz Reports

July 2017

Since my last report, efforts turned to the Prairie Region Tri-Annual Convention that was held in Winnipeg in April.

I was honoured to be co-chair of the host committee along with Brother Matt Tijani. The committee included staff membersTracy Thor and Tina Matias-Bouchard, with preparation and planning beginning in November 2016.

Funds normally allocated towards the purchase of gifts (swag) from the host committee were allotted to purchasing prizesfor a silent auction. In addition, many components and individuals donated prizes for this cause. Over 30 prizes wereavailable, and $3000 was raised.

The silent auction beneficiary was Merchants Corner, a project located at the site of the old Merchants Hotel inWinnipeg, where construction is underway to develop 30 units of student family housing. These 30 units will provide amuch needed response to a long-standing problem and remove barriers to education for students with families.

I would like to thank all components and individuals who generously donated to this worthy cause.

I would also like to thank and acknowledge all volunteers who helped gather and prepare the host packages, worked the host table, boutique, silent auction and performed the multitude of tasks and duties that were asked of them. The generous sharing of your time to assist with the convention is valued and appreciated.

Thank You volunteers!

My sincere apologies if I have missed anyone.

I also sat as a member of the Finance Committee and we met in early April to review and approve (with conditions) the funding request for all of the 19 committees of the Prairie Region. I would like to thank the Committee members fort heir work. We will miss Brother Greg Krokosh and Sister Gloria Kelly from the Committee as they both provide valuable insight and guidance and shared their years and years of experience with the committee and the PRC.

I was honoured to be re-elected to the AREVP position at the convention in April. I ran on a platform of four priorities: Engagement, Activism, Community and Governance. As the AREVP, I will follow through with my plan to work on these with the PRC by putting forward ideas, motions, and agenda items in support of the priorities that were identified by members across the region.

I look forward to the next three years and prepare for the challenges ahead; I know we will achieve great things for our members throughout the region and the PSAC.
