Edmonton Human Rights Committee Meeting: Budget Meeting

Charmaine called the meeting to order at 6:35PM
- Call to Order / Land Acknowledgement / Harassment Statement
- This meeting was planned exclusively for creating the 2023 Plan and Budget.
- Charmaine recited the Anti-harassment statement and identified herself as the anti-harassment contact and provided her cell phone # and email address.
- Charmaine also presented a sincere Land Acknowledgement and invited everyone present to be mindful of the land on which they dwell.
- The committee members in attendance discussed every activity and budget amount for request. The committee agreed under consensus:
- in person meeting food expense: 6 x $60 each = $360.00
- In person meetings -Parking fees – $200.00
- Committee Open House Meet/Greet $150.00 for food/beverage.
- Swag for Pride Fest Edmonton Aug 18-26th. Participate as festival gate people- ensuring festival goers do not leave the venue with open alcohol beverages. Various swag items, candies. Also, can solicit the PSAC Edmonton RO for pride swag already on site. $300.00
- Janet Cardinal – Paint Night for Human Rights Day – 14 attendees @ 25.00 each = $350.00
- Indigenous Speaker – Lisa Richards (former PSAC member) – teaching on: the indigenous lens on water (to go with thirsty for justice PSAC campaign); Indigenous language; indigenous medicines and picking protocol. Three separate teachings @ 100.00 honorarium each = $300.00
- Indigenous speaker- Chevi Rabbitt – speaker on 2 spirit indigenous Identity. $100 honorarium.
- Lobbying loss of salary – $400.00
- Participate in the Autism Edmonton Zoo event. Assist as volunteers at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. TBA date and period of time that the zoo is open only to visitors with autism, and their caretakers. No cost.
- Thirsty for Justice PSAC National Campaign. Committee participation. Provide Committee members with the QR code to support the campaign to add their name to the petition. Obtain posters and leaflets from PSAC Edmonton RO for distribution. No cost.
- Harmony Brunch – $300.00
- Every committee member had their say and contributed to the decisions made for this year’s plan and budget request.
