Meeting called to order at 6:36PM Hybrid (Zoom/In Person)

  1. Welcome/Call to Oder/Anti-Harassment Statement and Land Acknowledgement:
    • given sincerely by Charmaine.
    • Carm Chan was the anti-harassment coordinator for this Hybrid meeting.
  2. A quick round of introductions was made:
    • The agenda was approved by consensus.
    • The previous minutes were approved by consensus
  3. Charmaine (Chair of the committee) gave an update:
    • Last AGM we could not establish the Human Rights committee due to not achieving quorum, and this is why we are holding a meeting today.
    • Attended her component National Women’s Conference
    • Will attend the PSAC National Women’s Conference at the end of the month
    • The truth and Reconciliation booklets that we ordered have arrived and will be made available at our planning session on March 29th , 2023.
    • Spoke about attending the “Water is Life” Summit, attending Indigenous powwow and showcase of talent at West Edmonton Mall. The committee’s very successful session on “Autisim 101” put on by Maurine from Autism Edmonton and Jessica Burylo – one of our members.
  4. Devina Hari (Co-chair of the committee) gave an update:
    • She has really enjoyed getting to know more about the committee and meeting new people.
    • She and Carol had a successful even on indigenous history and held a few draws for orange t-shirts for Every Child matters.
    • Has attended many meetings and participated in various discussions to do with Human rights.
  5. Stella parker gave the financial update:
    • November 2022 was the most recent bank statement available Opening balance = 2153.26
    • No expenditures and no funds received. Closing balance 2153.26
    • Common Shares 81.25
  6. Election of the new PSAC Northern Alberta Human Rights Committee:
    Position of Chair:
    • Charmaine nelson was nominated by Kim Cardinal and seconded by Steve Sukhbir.
      • No other nominations or offers were seen.
      • Charmaine accepted acclamation to the position.
    • Position of Co -Chair:
    • Jessica Burylo was nominated by Charmaine and seconded by Madeline Lee.
      • No other nominations or offers were seen.
      • Jessica accepted acclamation to the position .
    • Position of Treasurer:
    • Kim Cardinal was nominated by Charmaine and seconded by Steve.
      • No other nominations or offers were seen.
      • Kim accepted acclamation to the position.
    • Position of Secretary:
    • Omar Ahmed was nominated by Charmaine and seconded by Madeline Lee.
      • No other nominations or offers were seen.
      • Omar accepted acclamation to the position.
  7. Bank Signing Authority
    • We request and authorize the bank to remove the current names, whom held signing authority in 2022. They are as follows: Devina Hari (Co-chair), Stella Parker (Treasurer) and Carol Morrison (Secretary).
    • We request and authorize the bank to add the following names whom have been elected and approved by this committee to hold signing authority:
      • The newly elected executive for 2023 are as follows: Charmaine Nelson (Chair), Jessica Burylo (Vice Chair), Kim Cardinal (Treasurer).
  8. Election of seat to the 9th Annual Prairies triennial Convention : June 9 to June 11, 2023:
    • Carm Chan conducted the election:
      • Jessica Burylo was nominated by Charmaine and seconded by Carol.
        • Jessica let her name stand.
      • Madeline Lee was nominated by Steve and seconded by Devina.
        • Madeline let her name stand.
    • Madeline Lee was elected as Delegate to the 9th Annual Prairies Triennial Convention
    • Jessica Burylo is the alternate for the seat.
  9. Round table offered:

    • March 28th, 2023 @ 6:30pm hybrid option
