Local union representatives are the lifeblood of the union. Your commitment to the membership emboldens and empowers them to create a better union, a better workplace, and a better world for all. When workforce adjustment happens, members lives are thrown into disarray. Morale is greatly impacted and opportunities open for employers to make mistakes, or worse, to take advantage of the resulting confusion, at our member’s expense.
By the end of this training, local officers will:
- be able to share key historical developments with regards to workforce adjustment in the federal public service
- review the workforce adjustment provisions in the collective agreement and identify key components and provisions to help them guide members through the process effectively and confidently
- identify the roles and responsibilities of all parties (Agency, Employee, Union, Union Representative) when a WFA situation is initiated
- view WFA from a human rights perspective
- discuss strategies and tools for supporting the positive mental health of members who are affected by workforce adjustment using a trauma informed approach
- identify resources to support Local union representatives who advocate for members in WFA situations
- be able to apply WFA provisions to workplace situations
