Alberta Solidarity Fund Update

Following the disastrous flooding in Alberta last June, PSAC launched an appeal among Components, Regional Offices, Area Councils, Committees and Locals to support the PSAC Social Justice Fund’s Alberta Solidarity Fund.

The support was instantaneous and exceptionally generous. In just a few short weeks, we raised $22,800, which was donated to support organizations working in areas where our members have been affected and may be utilizing support services.

The organizations we were able to support included:

  • SIKSIKA Nation Disaster Relief Fund
  • The Mustard Seed Calgary
  • Foothills Foundation
  • Stoney Nakoda Flood Relief Fund 2013
  • Calgary Drop-In & Rehabilitation Centre
  • Women’s Centre of Calgary
  • Rowan House Emergency Shelter, High River

PSAC wishes to recognize the contributions of the following:

  • Agriculture PSAC Local 20041, Oliver, BC
  • Agriculture PSAC Local 20064, North Saanich, BC
  • Agriculture PSAC Local 40022, Saskatoon, SK
  • Agriculture PSAC Local 10008, Vallée-Joncton, QC
  • Agriculture PSAC Local 10377, St-Jean-sur-Richelieu, QC
  • Agriculture PSAC Local 70155, Ottawa, ON
  • Agriculture PSAC Local 14, Rexdale, ON
  • Cutoms and Immigration Union, Orford, QC
  • Government Services Union, Ottawa, ON
  • PSAC Prairie Region
  • PSAC UTE Local 042, Sudbury, ON
  • UCTE, Ottawa, ON
  • UPCE, Ottawa, ON
  • UNW, Yellowknife, NT

The massive, ongoing cleanup effort required thousands of volunteers to rebuild communities and repair damages to houses and personal property.

In an effort to coordinate PSAC members who have asked how they can help, we organized volunteer days to get out into the communities and provide support, including July 12 at the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre (see photos below), July 13 in High River, and July 14 at Stoney Nakoda First Nation. PSAC wishes to recognize the dedication of thousands of volunteers and emergency workers from all levels of government for their efforts to provide protection and relief.
