The 10th PSAC Prairies Regional Convention officially kicked off today in Calgary. Over 200 delegates are participating in discussions, debates and elections over the next three days to shape the future of our union. Here are some key moments from the first day of Convention!
Elder Gerald Sitting Eagle, Piitaopi conducted the opening ceremony and welcomed participants to Treaty 7 territory.
Delegates then adopted the agenda and rules of order and ratified the Convention Committees.


Regional Executive Vice-President, Marianne Hladun, presented her final report to convention delegates and answered questions from the floor.
In her address, REVP Hladun encouraged delegates to continue building connections with each other. She also called on members to support the incoming Prairie Region Council and Regional Executive Vice-President as they carry this work forward through the next term.
The Regional Executive Vice-President’s report, as well as the Prairie Regional Council reports, included in the Convention Guide, were also adopted by delegates.

The Prairies Region budget was also discussed and passed by delegates. The budget for 2027-2029 is available here.
The Convention Bylaws Committee presented several key resolutions aimed at supporting the Prairies Region’s work over the next term, aligning regional bylaws with the PSAC Constitution, and making participation more accessible for members. A full list of bylaws resolutions is available here.

- BYL-013, Strengthening Regional Representation at PSAC National Convention, defeated
- BYL-007, REVP Residency Requirement, carried
- BYL-005, Area Council Resolutions, defeated
- BYL-012, Enhancing Leadership Development for Alternate REVPs, defeated
The first election of the convention took place. Simon Pazdor was elected as the Young Workers’ Representative on the Prairies Regional Council.
Candidates for Regional Executive Vice-President and Alternate Regional Executive Vice-President also addressed delegates at a forum held on Friday night. Elections for these position will take place on Sunday morning.
