Pride 2026

As Pride season begins across the Prairies, we are reminded that Pride is more than a celebration, it reflects courage, resilience, and a community that continues to shape the 2SLGBTQIA+ movement today.

At a time when many people feel exhausted by uncertainty, and growing hostility in the world, Pride offers connection, something extremely important and sorely missed. It creates space for people to be seen, supported, and valued for who they are. That sense of belonging matters, especially for those who continue to face discrimination, isolation, and/or barriers in their workplaces and communities.

Across Canada and throughout the Prairies, 2SLGBTQIA+ communities continue to experience harmful rhetoric and policies that undermine inclusion, restrict rights, and limit self-expression. These attacks are not victimless. They affect people, including children, friends, family members, and neighbours. They also remind us that progress is never guaranteed and that solidarity and the fight for social justice must be ongoing.

We must continue showing up for one another, not only during celebrations and events, but throughout the entire year. And challenge discrimination when we see it, support inclusive workplaces and communities, and ensure all people are treated with dignity and respect.

Pride is also about joy, visibility, and community care. It is found in the moments where people feel safe enough to be themselves, where differences are embraced rather than judged, and where people come together to support one another.

To all 2SLGBTQIA+ members, you belong here, your voices matter, and your union stands with you, not only during Pride, but every day of the year.

Wishing everyone a safe, joyful, and meaningful Pride season.

In solidarity,

Marianne Hladun
Regional Executive Vice-President, Prairies
