Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Prairies working for Sodexo, represented by Union of National Defence Employees (UNDE) Local 40807, are on strike at 15 Wing Moose Jaw following failed negotiations with the employer.
PSAC Prairies has been engaged in contract negotiations over the past year on behalf of 35 Sodexo employees at the base, including cooks, general help and maintenance staff. After failed conciliation and the employer’s refusal to offer fair wages and benefits, workers have taken to the picket line.
“At a time when Canadians rely on safe, clean and well-functioning base operations, workers should not be forced to strike to be heard,” said Marianne Hladun, Regional Executive Vice-President for the Prairies. “These are critical workers who deserve respect, fair wages, and decent working conditions.”
The strike raises broader concerns about the use of contracted services at military bases and other federal sites, including the impact on workforce stability, service quality, and accountability.
PSAC Prairies is calling on Sodexo to return to the table with a fair agreement that respects workers and the services they provide.
The union is encouraging members of the public and labour allies to support workers on the picket line by visiting the site outside the base at 15 Wing, strike time and locations can be found here – https://bit.ly/Strike40807 and by sending a letter to decision makers here – https://bit.ly/40807Letter to demand a fair resolution.
