May 5 is Red Dress Day (also known as the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people – MMIWG2S+). It raises awareness of the disproportionate amounts of violence perpetuated against Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people. It is a day to recognize the problem, stand with families and loved ones of those who are missing or gone, and putting a stop to the cycle of violence they face in Canada and around the world.
We encourage you to attend community events and ceremonies, wear red to show support and advocate for systemic change that prevents violence against Indigenous Women, Girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people.
Please read the National Inquiry’s 231 Calls for Justice to learn more on how you can do your part and involve others around you in ending this crisis.
