May Day 2012

International Workers' Day (May Day) is the commemoration of the 1886 Haymarket Massacre in Chicago, when Chicago police fired on workers during a general strike for the eight hour workday, after an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb at police as they dispersed a public meeting. Several demonstrators and several police officers were killed. May Day was formally recognized as an annual event in 1891.

The Harper government’s decision to dismantle the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) is illegal and undemocratic. Once again, the Conservative government is putting the interests of its corporate friends ahead of the interests of Canadian communities, families and working people. 

Purple Wave Rally: The Right to Strike

At 11:45am on Monday, October 17, CUPE is staging a rally in support of the right to strike outside the Air Canada building on Portage Avenue (355 Portage).
 
Please join us in supporting Air Canada flight attendants and the rights of all workers.
 
Wear purple, bring signs, banners, noise makers, your enthusiasm and energy!
