September 12, 2023 @ 7:15 pm – via Zoom/Teleconference

Membership in Attendance

Dawn Montgrant, Shaina Ledoux, Rachelle Deault and Marissa Buote

Jacqueline Maurice (PSAC Rep)

1. Call to Order – 7:23 pm by Dawn – Motion by Shaina, Second by Marissa – Motion carried.

  • Acknowledged that the start time of 7:15 pm as posted was not reflected in the meeting invite as the time appeared as 6:15 pm.  We had 10 people originally scheduled to attend but think we lost the other participants due to the conflicting start time.

2. Treaty Acknowledgement

  • We discussed that there’s tools available for committee members to guide them through how to do a Treaty Acknowledgement.  This will be valuable to the committee as the committee members are all new in their roles and would appreciate the info.

3. Statement of Harassment

  • Jacqueline was identified as the Harassment Complaint Co-ordinator for this meeting.

4. Adoption of Agenda – Motion by Rachelle, second by Shaina, motion carried.

5. Review of Previous Minutes – May 30, 2023

  • New member orientation reference in the minutes was a session for new members attending a conference and was offered at the PSAC Prairie Region Convention in June 2023.
  • PSAC Pride event update:  PSAC Pride Flags were distributed at the event in Prince Albert the weekend of June 3, 3023.

Motion to approve the previous minutes as amended by Rachelle, seconded by Marissa, motion carried.

6. Treasures Report/Financial Statement – We haven’t received our bank statements for this calendar year.  Jacqueline will follow-up.  There was no funding issued yet this year so our balance remains unchanged.  We requested a donation to the PA Pride of $100.00 and to pay the annual membership of $5.  Jacqueline will follow-up with Marianne to see if it was approved.

We committed to a deadline of 2 weeks to deal with changing the signatories at the bank.  We will do the other documents – Appendix B and Appendix D – at the end of the meeting and send them to Jacqueline.

Treasurer’s report moved by Shaina and seconded by Marissa, motion carried.

7. Discussion

  • We discussed upcoming events – September 30th is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and we’d like to do an activity.  Motion to request $100 from the PSAC Prairie Region to purchase materials in order for us to prepare decals to be distributed to our locals that fall within the responsibility of this council.  Moved by Shaina, Seconded by Marissa, motion carried.
  • Next event will likely be the laying of a wreath for Remembrance Day.
  • Rachelle – still having issues with getting access to Ulink.  Jaqueline will follow-up with Rachelle.
  • We will keep brainstorming about ideas and bring them to future meetings.
  • Dawn has her report ready for the last Prairie Regional Council meeting and will distribute it to her constituency – locals who report to the Prince Albert District Area Council and the Saskatoon Area Council.

8.  New Business

Guest Speaker – Ashlee Hicks, Canadian Labour Congress (CLC)

Ashlee shared:

  • History of the union and how CLC came to be.
  • CLC has a role to advance the issues that affect our members.
  • CLC was there with us during the strike in April as the outcome of the strike affects all workers.  All workers are feeling the pinch with the cost of living in SK.  Back to work legislation was not supported by the CLC.
  • Anti-scab legislation will come out in the fall.
  • CUPE 882 – City of Prince Albert workers are on strike.
  • CLC offers training to the members, feel free to check out the schedule and attend the training.

9.  Round Table

  • We had a discussion around reaching out to our locals to increase our attendance at these meetings.
  • We discussed having an open house type of event in Prince Albert so we can meet and greet in person.  Jacqueline encouraged all the committee members to attend the virtual Regional Committee Training to take place on October 12-13 and that we can use our idea of the open house as part of the learning at the course as this one of the outcomes of the training.
  • Jacqueline indicated that there’s so much training upcoming and encouraged everyone to view the upcoming courses and apply to those that interest us.  She’s that some of this training can take place in Prince Albert so we can be closer to home when we attend the training.

11. Schedule next meeting – October 24, 2023, at 6:30 p.m. Note that on the next agenda we will post that we will be electing our delegate and alternate(s) to the upcoming PSAC Triennial Convention that’s taking place in May 2024.

12. Adjournment – 8:18 p.m.  Motion to adjourn by Marissa
