Solidarity Statement: Standing Together for Public Services, Fair Wages, and Workers’ Rights

Across Canada, workers are taking a stand, defending public services, demanding fair treatment, and calling for the respect and dignity every worker deserves.

The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) is on the front lines, pushing back against the Carney government’s plan to slash Canada Post. Proposals to end door-to-door delivery, close rural post offices, and reduce mail frequency are a direct attack on a service millions rely on. Postal workers are holding strong and they need our support.

Canada Post is more than a service; it’s a public good that must remain accessible to all.

In Alberta, teachers are speaking out against chronic underfunding in education. With a strike possible on October 6, they’re demanding real solutions that reflect today’s classroom realities and recognize the vital work educators do every day. This fight isn’t just about teachers, it’s about our children and the future of our communities.

In Winnipeg, Manitoba OE987 members at Park’N Fly were locked out on September 25 after standing up for fair wages, safe working conditions, and basic respect. They’ve maintained a strong picket line ever since and need our solidarity now more than ever.

And in Saskatchewan, workers at the Heritage Inn in Moose Jaw and Saskatoon have also been locked out since September 7, 2023 from an employer who refuses to bargain in good faith. These dedicated hospitality workers are being asked to give up hard-won benefits, a rollback no worker should accept.

From postal workers to teachers, parking attendants to hotel staff, these struggles are connected. They’re part of a broader fight for justice on the job, respect for frontline workers, and the protection of the public services that strengthen our communities.

We stand for fair wages, safe workplaces, strong public services, and workers’ rights.

Show up. Speak out. Stand in solidarity.
Because when we fight together, we win together.

In Solidarity,

Marianne Hladun
Regional Executive Vice-President, Prairie Region
