PSAC Young Workers United!

As the representative for young workers in my region, I have heard time and time again the need for a place for young workers to gather on an ongoing basis. Please help to spread the word to the young workers in your region and encourage them to join the “PSAC Young Workers United!” Facebook group and engage in this constructive dialogue.

As the representative for young workers in my region, I have heard time and time again the need for a place for young workers to gather on an ongoing basis.

The PSAC courses and conferences aimed at young workers have offered an important opportunity for us to gather, network, share stories and build solidarity. But when we go back to our workplaces, we once again feel isolated, often with very few young workers at our work sites to communicate with or confide in.

While young workers have created groups of their own within their regions, I believe it’s imperative that we have a national venue in which to assemble to discuss achievements and activities in our workplaces, for our locals, and within our communities, and celebrate the inspirational young people who are making a difference.

With PSAC 16th Triennial Convention just weeks away, delegates will debate resolutions that directly affect young workers in our union, like priority resolution GEN-117, which aims to raise the age of “young worker” from 30 to 35, or priority resolution CS-026, which calls for the PSAC Constitution to be amended to allow for the formation of Regional Youth Committees. It’s more important than ever for young workers to come together to discuss these potential changes and collectively decide where we stand.

Please help to spread the word to the young workers in your region and encourage them to join the “PSAC Young Workers United!” Facebook group and engage in this constructive dialogue. I’ve also included a list of regional young worker contacts and initiatives below:
