Marianne Hladun, PSAC Regional Executive Vice-President for the Prairie Region, joined approximately 80 AUPE members on the picket line this morning at the Revera Riverbend Retirement Residence.Practical nurses, health-care aides and support staff at Revera Riverbend have been on strike for nearly seven weeks. In a letter, PSAC National Vice-President Chris Aylward, urged owners to get back to the bargaining table and called for "a quick resolution to this labour dispute."

Hello everyone, As many of you know we have recently received resignations from Terry Inigo-Jones, Communications Director, and from Luanne Climenhaga, Office Administrator. We are missing them both and wish them exceptionally well. As a result the AFL is hiring and have the attached two positions to post. Please make sure that you spread this information as broadly as you can. IF you have networks that could be useful please make sure that they are informed. The closing date is JULY 25, 2012.

Employees at the Regina Ramada Hotel, members of UNITE HERE Local 41, have been on strike since Monday, June 4, 2012 after efforts to negotiate a reasonable agreement were unsuccessful.Sister Marianne Hladun, Regional Executive Vice-President for the PSAC Prairie Region, wrote a letter to Terry Groff, General Manager at the Regina Ramada Hotel, days before the strike urging him to return to the bargaining table with a fair and equitable offer for these workers.

The Alberta Federation of Labour’s Pride and Solidarity Committee has launched a new campaign in an effort to reclaim words used in a derogatory manner by children and youth, often without realizing the negative impact it has on the GLBT community.

International Workers' Day (May Day) is the commemoration of the 1886 Haymarket Massacre in Chicago, when Chicago police fired on workers during a general strike for the eight hour workday, after an unknown person threw a dynamite bomb at police as they dispersed a public meeting. Several demonstrators and several police officers were killed. May Day was formally recognized as an annual event in 1891.

The Harper government’s attack on the Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) is not about market freedom. It’s not about offering a choice to farmers. It is, quite simply, an illegal and undemocratic attack on collective bargaining.
