Old Business
arising from past minutes -
1. May Day feedback -
still no volunteers to be on committee - List of May Week Activities
will be sent out by Maria as soon as they are received. Reminder about
the National Day of Mourning - April 28 which is the beginning of
May Week Activities. Barb will call the AFL to confirm the exact time
of the ceremony at City Hall. May Day Parade - Marshaling begins at
5:00 p.m. at McIntyre Park - parade begins at 6:00 p.m. and will proceed
along Whyte Ave. to Gazebo Park. Two volunteers are needed to
pick up and carry EAC banner.
2. Medicare Training -
One session has already occurred, next session is for canvassers and
will occur on April 24 in room 205 at Canada Place . Poster will be
sent out by May.
3. Labour Appreciation Dinner
- Tamara noted that her local has purchased 3 tickets and we could
sit together as a PSAC table. She will contact Perry to arrange the
table. Martine, Raymonde, Jo, Mary, Elaine and Barbara S. have
identified they would like to attend. The committee agreed to purchase
4 tickets last month and to include spouses/guest of those from the
committee. Raymonde and Barbara identified they would like their
spouses to attend. Mike put forth a motion to purchase the four extra
tickets. Raymonde seconded - carried. Jo noted that she
expects to be reimbursed for her ticket and would reimburse the committee
for her ticket.
4. Bylaws - Barb W. presented
the bylaws with the amendment presented last month for voting. Carried
5. Education Lunch Time
sessions at Canada Place and DND - Barb and Maria have done two sessions
on the Collective Agreement and Union Member Benefits - with a total
of 18 people attending. Elaine reports that neither session occurred
at DND, as no one signed up.
6. Labour History - Jo
is continuing to work on it. She provided two draft copies for committee
members to review, to add to or to offer suggestions. They are to
return them at the next meeting. She would really like feedback.
7. Human Rights Committee
is up and running again with Barbara Sayers now the official Chairperson.
8. United Way Certificates
- Jo will pick up two frames for our United Way Certificates so that
they can be hung in the PSAC office/boardroom. She will bring the
receipts for reimbursements next month.
New Business
1. Aspen Foundation Donation
- Jo moved we made a donation of $50. Martine seconded - carried
2. PSAC Convention - delegate/observer
attendance. Cost of airfare - $786.40, Registration - $150.00, per
diem $70 per day as per convention protocol ($350.00) for a total
of $1286.40. Discussion moved by Barb seconded by Tamara - carried.
Maria will provide receipts for ticket and registration to
next meeting for reimbursement.
3. Action Plan for web posting -
Discussion about activities and identifying that a brief plan/calendar
of events should be posted on the web site. This brought to the floor
a discussion about the Mandate/Objectives for the EAC. It was suggested
that next month members should bring back to the meeting ideas from
locals to develop our mandate. Barb W. offered to draft a proposed
Action Plan that could
be used for the web site.
4. Edmonton District Labour Council
Donation - Discussion about the support received from
the EDLC - Maria moved a $50 donation be given because we have no
PSAC local affiliated with the EDLC, Jo seconded - carried.
5. Classification Reform
- Discussion - not everyone was aware of the issue. Locals should
have the letter from Nycole and implement it - Raymonde agreed to
get the local listing of contacts from May and contact them about
the issue. Raymonde will send an e-mail to Robyn re: Is there
a deadline for filing these grievances and, if she was to come to
the PSAC Regional Office to make the contacts, would Leave
W/O pay be paid through the Political Action Committee.
6. NAOSH Week - May 6
- Opening and Fun Run Walk - Tamara is the committee's organizer for
this event. May 7 Information Fair at Canada Place , May 8 Video,
Humour Your Stress, in Room 201 at Canada Place.
REPORTS
1. Financial - tabled
until next month when Mary is available.
2. Prairie Region Council
- Jo provided a verbal report from PRC - she is working on her written
report and should have it ready for next month. She discussed three
upcoming resolutions that have been put forward - Election of REVP
should be held at the Regional Convention rather than PSAC Convention,
Increase funding, Formation of Men's Committee's.
3. AFL - Environment Campaign
re: - if certain changes occur with Canadian waters, it could open
Canadian waters to the NAFTA Agreement.
AFL convention
- currently Barb is on the H&S Committee, Jo is on the Environment
Committee, Tamara is on the Women's Committee and Terry Lyons is on
the Human Rights Committee. Each may be putting their names
forward to continue on these committees.
4. Edmonton District Labour Council
- next meeting April 22/03
5. G-8 Video - Martine
brought the Video on her departments involvement in setting up the
physical structure for G-8.
6. Components - No component
