19.1 Call to Order

Mary Veilleux called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. Review of Agenda and call for any changes.

19.2 Adoption on Agenda

Frank Lloyd made a motion to accept amended  Agenda, 2nd by Marilyn Schirru. All were in favour. Motion Carried

19.3 Approval of previous minutes

Motion to accept ***amended*** minutes was made by Elaine Alt , 2nd by Niru Channan. None opposed. All in favour. Motion Carried

19.4 Business arising from previous Minutes

Action Plan for EAC-At our June meeting there was discussion as to how we would put a plan of action in place at our Sept  05 meeting on how we would raise our profile with our membership.

Ledger for Treasurer

Elaine Alt advised EAC that she will purchase a Ledger for EAC to assist with accurate record keeping practices.

Observer/Delegate to PSAC Prairie Regional Convention

was in attendance and reported to the EAC,  Jayne Fisher will provide a written report on her attendance/experience to the PRC Convention.

19.5 Reports

PSAC PRC: Niru Channan- the newly elected Prairie Region Council has not met to date and first meeting is in October 2005.

PSAC PRC: Jo Chelick - Absent

AFL Executive meeting and RWC: Tamara Kozlowska gave an update on CBC strike and the TWU Strike activity. Tamara expressed that she would like to see more support on the picket lines in the downtown area at lunch times. She encouraged members to go out as often as they could. It is expected that the TWU strike will be lengthy. Human Rights Committee will be participating in the Make Poverty History Campaign and the “wrist bands “ will be distributed in Canada Place form Nov 1, 2005 to December 10, 2005. Finally “Take Back the Night”on September 23, 2005 downtown Edmonton.

Treasurer Report - EAC has $728.03 in account. Elaine asked that the Treasurers Report be accepted as presented.  All were in favour. Motion Carried        

19.6 Election of Edmonton Area Council member to attend PSAC Convention of May 2005. Election results are as follows:

Nominations:

Frank Lloyd was nominated by Doreen MacIntosh / 2nd by Jayne Fisher

Elaine Alt was nominated by Marilyn Schirru/ 2nd Niru Channan

Tamara Kozlowska nominated by Elaine Alt/ 2nd Laurel Gladu

Frank Lloyd and Elaine Alt let their names stand / Tamara Kozlowska

withdrew her name.

Election results are as follows:

Elaine Alt > delegate

Frank Lloyd >alternate

Lorna Themelis made a motion /2nd Tamara Kowlowska  that President of EAC request REVP Robyn Benson to provide funding for Frank Lloyd

to attend PSAC Convention as Observer. Motion Carried

19.7 New Business: 

Action plan for Edmonton Area Council was discussed at length and

decisions were made to prepare a business case to Robyn for approval on the following:

  • participate in the Make Poverty History Campaign
  • pamphlet on Edmonton Area Council/contact info
  • EAC posters for Locals /recruitment
  • recognition awards to Locals doing community service
  • public service messages /promote members work
  • brochure on Edmonton Area Council/role of Council

It was decided that we would provide support to community service with the goal to recruit members to become involved through community work.

It was also determined that members of the Council will contact RVP’s/ Locals and set up face to face meetings with  Executive or at AGM’s to talk about the Council and gain support /interest with members to become more involved through community service. Additionally it was decided that we would have a cross-section of our members attending the RWC and HRC meetings on a regular basis. Finally a newsletter from the EAC to the Locals outlining our activity. It was also suggested that the EAC meet with city counselors to discuss contracting out of jobs in our communities. Tamara Kozlowska made a motion/ 2nd Elaine Alt, that the Edmonton Area Council donate up to $50.00 for a wreath for Remembrance Day to be presented at Butterdome in Edmonton on Nov 11 at Remembrance Day Parade.   Motion carried

19.8 Motion to adjourn meeting made by Laurel /2nd by Lorna. motion carried ****notice**** next meeting date not decided
