15.1 Call to order

  • Mary called the meeting to order at approximately 1740 hours.
  • Welcome to the members in attendance.

15.2 Adoption of agenda

  • Motion by Corey Nash, Second Jayne Fisher to adopt agenda, motion carried.

15.3 Approval of Previous minutes approval

  • Brief discussion surrounding word smithing of minutes in advance of the meeting.
  • Adoption of minutes from February EAC meeting deferred.

15.4 Business arising from previous Minutes

  • Mary will contact Kerry Barrett re: May Day Celebration
  • Regional Women's Committee re: International Women Day March 08th.
  • Boyle Street Coop needs volunteers to prepare, serve and clean up from 1:00pm - 8:00pm. Kerry Barrett will be contacted by Mary.
  • Post Cards for Child Care issue Campaign have been distributed at Canada Place .
  • PSAC RWC members to send cards to Prime Minister Paul Martin.
  • RWC Press release for Child Care campaign on March 08, 2005 .
  • United way Labour Appreciation Dinner, 6 members have expressed interest in attending the dinner. Frank Lloyd, Mary Veilleux, Elaine Alt, Christa Cooper,Tamara K, Jo Chelick and Jayne Fisher. Request for tickets needs to be sent to Perry in a timely manner. Motion by Jo Chelick, 2nd by Tamara K for 4 tickets at $45.00 each. Carried. Tamara and Jo will get money from RWC and PRC respectively.
  • Celanese Rally on Feb 14, 2005 / EAC participated at the legislature.

15.5.2 PSAC PRC - Niru Channan - not present


15.5.3
Alberta Federation of Labour Environment Committee - Jo Chelick - no meeting took place. Working on resolutions to AFL convention.

Alberta Federation of Labour Regional Women's Committee - Tamara Kozlowska, Chair

  1. Resolutions on Health, Pension, Day Care and Pay equity.
  2. Executive Council dues increased for AFL.
    Discussion surrounding per diem to 83cents/Ab (CFL is $1.00)
  3. Discussion surrounding that the PSAC has assisted the AFL.

EAC Treasurer's Report - Elaine not present

  • Mary advises that she received a cheque for $1000.00 for operating budget and $400.00 for Observer to PRC convention from Robyn Benson's office.

Approval of Previous Minutes

  • Brother Nash reminds chair of approval of minutes from October from Sister Cindy Krause
  • Motion by Tamara K/ Second by Jo Chelick minutes of October 2004 adopted, Motion carried, Abstain Corey Nash
  • Motion by Tamara K Second by Mary V November 2004 EAC minutes be approved, Motion carried, Opposed Corey Nash( minutes not provided to members that were in attendance in advance to review for accuracy as they were not in attendance at meeting of March 2, 2005.)

15.6 New Business


15.6.1
Wall Mart Petition - 200 workers out of work at UFCW in PQ. ( www.ufcw.org , sign electric petition)

  • The Wall Mart is shutting down, workers have appealed
  • President request for Oneil to look into rally or letter drop at Wall Marts. Oneil will get a hold of UFCW to inquire.
  • Propose a Solidarity BBQ for Wall Mart employees to show our support.
  • NHL Solidarity BBQ for support proposal
  • Robyn Benson has sent out petition to rally members and seek signatures for petition.

Labour History Calendar 2006. They are asking for submissions for their calendar. Stories and/or pictures of PSAC Alberta labour history.

  • Table 2/ Reg Rates of Pay Campaign up and running (USGE/UNDE)

Bill 263 - SBC Airports second reading

Motion by Tamara K/Second by Frank Lloyd: additional funding from Robyn Benson ($400.00) for Jayne Fisher to attend PRC as observer/carried. Jayne Fisher's written request was submitted by January 31 to attend PRC.

  • Tamara notes an amendment to bylaws submitted for delegate status to PRC.
  • Oneil Call Out to members to sit on Political Action Committee Mary Veilleux 1st, Frank Lloyd 2nd, Tamara Kozlowska 3rd. Brief discussion surrounding a proposed desk drop.
  • May Day Volunteers April 26 - May 01. Asking for money. Need rep from EAC to attend meetings for May Day committee.
  • International Women's Day - $35.60 per ticket + service charges. Looking for volunteers to help with seating. Money raised is for Changing Together. Thursday February 17 @ 10010-105 Street
  • March 08 AFL Women's Committee cooking supper for inner city women and their children. Send out requests for funding. 1300 hours cooking for 100 - 150 women and children. Need something in writing to get more members involved.
  • March launched for International Women's Day, Regional Women's Committee may plan something.
  • Edmonton District Labour Council School, Labour Relations Code attached schedule. $60.00 each day course.
  • United Way Labor Appreciation - April 16, 2005 $45.00 dollars per ticket, for anyone interested in attending deadline for registration is March 15, 2005 .
  • 265 workers at Celanese Plant Edmonton loosing their jobs to China , demonstrate @ 1230 @ Legislature on February 14.
