16.1 Call to order
Mary Veilleux called the
meeting to order at 5:40 p.m.
16.2 Adoption on Agenda
Motion to accept the agenda
as presented by Frank Lloyd. 2nd by Louise Patrick. All were in
favour. Motion Carried
16.3 Approval of
previous minutes
- Motion to accept minutes as presented with corrections below was
made by Elaine Alt. 2nd by Frank Lloyd. 6 were in favour. 1 abstained.

- Executive in Attendance - Elaine Alt. Elaine Alt should be under
regrets.
- 15.5.4 (3) should read that the PSAC has assisted the AFL.
16.4 Business arising
from previous Minutes
- Wal-Mart - UFCW campaign to speak out against
Wal-Mart, see link; www.unionvoice.org/campaign/walmart05
to read and sign the petition. Robyn Benson encouraged members
to shop Canadian and not support Wal-Mart.
- May Day - Looking for volunteers for May Day
Committee
Labour Appreciation Night
- 6 Tickets for members who had expressed interest. Chair asked
for alternates, in the event that someone was not able to attend.
Cara More's name submitted as an alternate.
16.5 Reports
- PSAC PRC: Niru Channan - Absent - Nil Report
- AFL Environment: Jo Chelick - Absent - Nil Report
- AFL Executive meeting and RWC - Tamara Kozlowska
- May Day Event - There will be a plaque on the Union Promenade.
- PSAC Equity Structure - Labour History Calendar
- PRC Finance Committee - Met with Dorothy Paquette (Carpenter's
Hall)
- April 28 - International Day of Mourning, wearing black arm bands
on this day
- Treasurer Report - Elaine Alt
There is $1000, plus
$400 for the PRC. There was $2.03 left from last year. There
is a current grand total of $732.00. The books have been sent
out for Audit; once they are back Robyn Benson has asked that
a copy be faxed to her. Deferred until next meeting.
16.6 New Business
- Guest Speaker: Robyn Benson advised that she
tries to meet with the Area Councils in the spring and fall.
- Collective Bargaining - Robyn Benson gave a personal
thank you to Mary Veilleux. Robyn Benson asked that the Area Councils
continue to lobby the MP's as it is not too long until collective
bargaining begins again.
- Joint Career Transition Committee (JCTC) - Robyn
Benson advised that the name would change to Joint Adjustment Committee
(JAC). In Manitoba and Saskatchewan there is an open door policy,
however in Alberta there are rules as to how many people can participate.
- Funding - Robyn Benson advised that in there
is money allocated to the Area Council's, Regional Women's Committees
and the Human Rights Committees. Robyn Benson is asking for a copy
of 4 minutes from last year, a financial statement and budget, then
the money will be allocated. Formal request to follow.
- Youth Initiative - Robyn Benson advised that
a letter was sent out to all locals, only 10 people responded. There
is a youth caucus network in the Prairies.
- Honours and Awards - Prairie Voice Award started
in 2001, it is an award for outstanding work for PSAC staff and
PSAC members. Could be several awards handed out.
- Prairie Regional Convention (PRC) - Robyn Benson
advised that there would be 300 delegates and 50+ observers. This
is the largest convention. There are over 50 resolutions going forward.
The resolution and committee report packages should be mailed out
by the end of April. Robyn Benson advised that there would most
likely be a meet and greet on Friday and they were trying to plan
a BBQ for Saturday night. The PRC is a good opportunity to do some
fundraising, if you are interested in having a table, you will need
to advise 2 weeks prior to convention.
- Prairie Union School Silent Auction - The Edmonton
Area Council will be donating an item for the school. The 2003 school
raised $1500, and would like to exceed this amount during this school.
Mary Veilleux proposed that the EAC donate $50 to the school auction.
Motion to donate $50 made by Louise Patrick. Seconded by Jayne Fisher.
None opposed. Carried.
- Minimum Wage In Alberta - Oneil Carlier advised
that the Alberta Government had an online survey. The minimum wage
in Alberta will be increasing from $5.90 an hour to $7.00 an hour.
- Human Rights Committee - Cara More advised that
currently the Human Right Committee had two projects: April 28 -
Black arm band campaign for The International Day of Mourning, volunteers
are needed. Campaign with same sex marriage: June 15 - BBQ, June
18 - Parade, this campaign is to raise awareness. Volunteers are
needed.
16.7 Adjournment
- There being no further business Tamara Kozlowska made the motion
to adjourn. Seconded by Frank Llyod. All were in favour. Motion
carried. Meeting adjourned 7:25 p.m.
