Greg Ballendine was elected as Winnipeg Area Council Rep and sworn in at the PSAC Prairie Region Triennial Convention in April 2017.
Greg has served his local as a Steward, Vice-President and President. Currently, he is the Vice-Chair of the Winnipeg Area Council and active with the Winnipeg Human Rights Committee. He completed the 2015 Union Development Program and the Alliance Facilitator Training Program. He was also awarded the 2017 Prairie Voice Award for Community Champion.
Greg began his service for others when he volunteered by enlisting in the United States Army at age 18. Following his Honorable Discharge after his four-year commitment, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree at the University of Manitoba. While in University, Greg spent numerous years as a term employee at the Winnipeg Tax Centre and cutting his teeth on workplace issues.
In search of less precarious work, Greg took his degree and became a Provincial Correctional Officer with MGEU. Greg committed to further Union activism and took an interest in representing members and learning more about his collective agreement and labor relations within MGEU for a handful of years.
Since returning to the PSAC in 2011, Greg has advanced through the ranks within his local and is a regular participant at various education courses, committee meetings and community events which promote social democracy and the labor movement. He currently serves on the NDP Federal Council and the Manitoba Provincial Council.
