Janette Husak was elected Alternate Aboriginal Peoples Representative at the 2014 Prairie Region Convention. She stepped into the Rep position on the Prairie Region Council in January 2015 when the elected representative resigned.
Janette has been involved in the union for nine years, prompted by a positive experience at the 2005 Equity Conference. She has since held several different positions on the Regina Human Rights Committee, including chair, vice-chair, treasurer and secretary. She also held the position of Saskatchewan Regional Representative on the UNE Human Rights Committee.
Janette has worked for the federal government for 16 years and currently works as a governance officer for Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development Canada, monitoring band elections, administering treaty payments and processing registrations.
