March 2012

As usual we were at the Labour Day BBQ. We had excellent weather for a change. We had a table with our swag and information and gave away helium balloons again. This year, in honour of Jack Layton’s recent death, they were orange balloons. We made the front page of the Star Phoenix with the Think Public Frisbees prominent in the photo.

In October we partnered with the P.A. Area Council to send out information to all of our Northern Sask. members regarding the provincial election. Along with our own letter, which was similar to the one we had sent out in May for the federal election, we included a brochure from the Saskatchewan Federation of Labour.  Despite our efforts the results of the election were extremely disappointing.

Also in Oct. I spent some time in the Regional Office to contact presidents of the North Sask. locals to update our contact information and talk about the TB petition and the leadership seminar.  I was pleased that there was such a good turn out at the Leadership Seminar. I think it was useful to meet people from the more isolated areas like LaRonge and get their perspective on what’s happening.

Nicole Wurm, our treasurer, laid the wreath on behalf of the AC at the Remembrance Day ceremony.

We participated with the Saskatoon Regional Women’s Committee in hosting an open house in December at the Regional Office.
